Day 10 (3/31)
WE LEFT FOR SKYE! This place is one of the biggest reasons I chose Scotland. After 2 years of saving, planning, and looking at pictures I finally made it!
The drive was beautiful. We drove through the highlands and stopped every half hour or so to take pictures.
When we got to Glencoe they ski slopes were still open, so we went halfway up the mountain to a little café for hot chocolate and some spectacular views.
Just before we crossed the bridge to Skye we came across a castle called Eilean Donan. I still have no idea how to pronounce it, but neither did Gavin, so I felt better about that. It was used in the movie Highlander from the 80's.
It was perfect weather, sunny and warm. This place is so beautiful.
Welcome to the highlands!
Riding the lift to the middle of the mountain in Glencoe.
Snoooooow!
Apparently "sledging" is how they refer to sledding here.
Not for one second did I think I would need sunglasses (or sunnies) while I was here.
Eilean Donan
He made fun of my accent, so I made fun of his.
Crossing the bridge!
I FINALLY MADE IT!
Day 11 (4/1)
We checked into the Skye Backpackers hostel and had some really good Indian food for dinner.
The next day we woke up to pouring rain. It was cold, windy, and absolutely miserable. We drove around the island and saw a few things, but there was no hiking in that mess. We ended up in Portree (the largest town on the island) and checked in to the hostel there.
We had English Chinese food for dinner, which was lacking in soy sauce, and called it an early night. Saturday was supposed to be a beautiful day and I wanted to see EVERYTHING.
First lunch in Skye.
The Old Man of Storr. More on that later.
Mealt Falls at Kilt Rock
This lovely spot is Quiraing. You'll see a lot of this in a second.
And those white falls off in the distance are the Fairy Pools.
Day 12 (4/2)
We woke up to a gloriously sunny day! It was perfect hoodie weather, and great for hiking. We grabbed breakfast at a cute little café by the hostel and then we were off!
The Old Man of Storr. Much prettier on a sunny day.
Nothing but blue skies and sunshine!
Mealt Falls at Kilt Rock in the sunshine.
Just checking each other out.
The Quiraing
The sign on the left is English, the one on the right is in Gaelic.
The Wee Isle of Skye Ice Cream Shop in Portree. The ice cream here is all made in house and delicious.
The view on the hill above Uig. You can catch the ferry here to go across to the isles of Harris and Lewis.
The Fairy Pools!
Hiked to the end of the trail and then some!
It's like Where's Waldo. I promise I'm up there somewhere.
The pink of the sunset reflected off the mountains and it was absolutely beautiful. The picture doesn't do it justice.
Day 13 (4/3)
The drive back was fairly uneventful. It was pretty rainy on Sunday (I think Saturday was kind of a miracle) so there wasn't much to see.
When we got home it was a boring night of sweatpants and tv watching, and some FaceTime with my loved ones.
Day 14 (4/4)
Today was uneventful as well. I wrote up some postcards and spent the day relaxing after my adventurous weekend. Back at it tomorrow, though!
